A reservoir will be built across Marudaiyar at Kottarai village in Alathur taluk of Perambalur district and the work on the project will begin in February.
Soil investigation and land acquisition have been completed. Work will begin with bund formation in February, said Public Works Department engineers.
The Rs. 108 crore project has been approved by the government and funds allocated. The dam will have a capacity of 211.58million cubic ft and an ayacut of 4,199 acres. The length of the bund will 2,170 metres.
Two canalsIt will have two sluices. Left side sluice will have a canal to a length of 9.91 km while the right side sluice will have a canal to a length of 6.57 km.
Left side canal will irrigate parts of Kottarai, Adhanur, Koothur, Thondapadi, and other villages while the right side canal will irrigate parts of Kottarai, Adhanur and Koodalur.
This will be the second dam in Perambalur district and the first one is the Viswakudi tank project where work is going on at a cost of Rs. 19 crore.
