Block-level winners in team games qualify for district-level sports meet

The district-level rounds of the national women’s sports competitions held here turned out to be an action-packed event. .

Organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Tiruchi, the tournament saw nearly 900 women, below 25 years of age, slugging it out in athletics, handball, hockey, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, gymnastics, badminton, table tennis, swimming, and tennis.

Athletics was held on Tuesday, the concluding day, and other events earlier. Block-level winners in team games and top two finishers in athletics qualified for the district-level meet.

The winners in team events were Manikandam (basketball), Anthanallur (handball, kabaddi, and badminton), Manapparai (hockey and tennis), Tiruverumbur (kho-kho), and Musiri (volleyball). R. Bhargavi clinched the title in table tennis. In gymnastics, R. Shangavi (balancing beam, vaulting horse, and floor exercises), and S. Chandrakantha (uneven bars) were the winners.

In swimming, A. Jedidah (100m freestyle and 200m individual medley), B. Mridula (200m freestyle and backstroke), J. Jhaasri (400m freestyle and 100m butterfly), U.G. Sagarika (100m and 200m breaststroke), R. Darsini (100m backstroke), and Tiruverambur block (4x100m medley relay) emerged victorious.

In athletics, R. Vigneswari(100m), R. Vaishnavi (200m), M. Raphael Macriene (400m), P. Kasthuri (800m), A. Priya (1,500m), K. Devibala (3,000m), R. Deviya Bharathi (100m hurdles), K. Thirisha (400m hurdles), A. Jayalakshmi (shotput), B. Ramya (discus and javelin throw), G.S. Roja (high jump), S. Dhanalakshmi (long jump), Thuraiyur block (4x100m relay), and Musiri block (4x400m relay), were the winners.
