The wife of K.K.Saravanan, a businessman of the city who committed suicide recently, has demanded the arrest of Tiruchi Corporation councillor Gerald Milton of the AIADMK and two others including a lawyer, who allegedly were responsible for the death of Mr.Saravanan.
The Boiler Plant police have booked a case against the three persons on the charge of intimidation and abetment to suicide.
42-year-old Saravanan, who ran a mineral water unit at Pazhanganangudi, allegedly consumed poison and was found dead in his car near BHEL Nehru Nagar in the city’s outskirts on November 19.
Though the Boiler Plant police station initially registered the case under Code of Criminal Procedure 174 (suicide), it was subsequently altered to IPC sections 306 (abetting the commission of suicide) and 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) naming Gerald Milton, Alex, and Rajesh, an advocate, as the accused.
This was done on a complaint from the victim’s wife L.S.Selvi and receipt of a cell phone purportedly containing a video recorded statement of Saravanan before he resorted to the extreme step.
Saravanan was said to have taken a loan from the councillor. It was alleged the councillor had harassed him, demanding a much higher amount than what he had given as loan to the latter for his business activity.
It was further alleged that the councillor had threatened the businessman forcing him to take the extreme step.
Special teams
Even as special teams were on the job of tracking down the three absconding accused, Ms.Selvi in the petition addressed to the Superintendent of Police, submitted at the District Police Office on Saturday, stated that her husband was a victim of usury and had ended his life due to harassment. Ms.Selvi further said that before taking the extreme step her husband had video recorded his own confession in the mobile phone holding the three accused responsible for his suicide.
Stating that the accused should be brought to book, the petitioner sought protection for her life and property and that of her family members as the accused bore enmity against her.
