Tamil Nadu Retired Police Welfare Association has appealed to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to establish a welfare board for police personnel in the State.
It has also urged the government to appoint an officer at the State-level to redress the grievances of retired police personnel. Resolutions to this effect were adopted at the association’s State executive committee meeting here on Sunday. It was presided over by its State president S.P. Saktivelu.
While seeking the establishment of a police educational board to help wards of law enforcers in getting quality education, the association sought 20 per cent reservation in employment for wards of police personnel.
Hike in the bonus for pensioners from Rs.500 to Rs.1,000; appointment of competent retired police personnel in police training establishments in the State to use their experience for training recruits; filling up the vacant posts in the police department speedily; and expansion of the police canteens to all districts were among the other demands.
Around 500 retired police personnel from various parts of the State took part.
