Voter strength of Tiruchi district up by 36,916

At 9,170, Srirangam has the maximum addition

Voter’s strength in Tiruchi district, consisting of nine Assembly constituencies, has increased by 36,916 following the summary revision of electoral rolls carried out over the past couple of months.

According to the final rolls released here on Monday, 58,677 eligible voters have been included in the electoral rolls. Of this, 30,225 were women and 28,452 men.

The maximum addition of 9,170 voters has been in Srirangam Assembly constituency, where by-election is to be held soon. It is followed by 8,300 inclusions in Tiruverumbur; 7,926 in Tiruchi East; 7,458 in Tiruchi West; 6,176 in Manapparai; 5,387 in Lalgudi; 5,156 in Manachanallur; 4,639 in Thuraiyur (SC) and 4,465 in Musiri.

As per the final electoral roll, the district has 20,93,136 voters with 10,60,959 women, 10,32,091 men and 86 voters in the ‘others’ category.

As many 21,761 voters, including 11,164 men, 10,596 women, and one voter in the ‘others’ category have been deleted based on applications received and suo motu verification on account of death or migration.

The maximum deletion has been in Tiruchi East with 6,757 voters being removed from the rolls, followed by 5,315 in Tiruverumbur; 4,896 in Tiruchi West; 2,611 in Srirangam; 1,354 in Thuraiyur (SC); 297 in Manapparai; 271 in Manachanallur; 163 in Musiri, and 97 in Lalgudi.

The Srirangam Assembly constituency continues to have the maximum number of voters of 2,70,129 in the district and Lalgudi the least with 1,98,770. Women outnumber in all the nine constituencies.

District Collector K.S. Palanisami released the final electoral roll for the district here on Monday in the presence of representatives of recognised political parties.

The voters list would be kept for public verification at the offices of the Tiruchi Corporation, the respective Revenue Divisional Offices, Taluk offices and all polling stations.
