Vocalist T.V. Gopalakrishnan honoured

Noted vocalist T.V. Gopalakrishnan was honoured with a title ‘Nadhadweepa Kalanidhi’ on the occasion of the anniversary of the Nadhadweepam Trust here on Wednesday.

The citation referred to the vidwan’s contribution to the world of music and his special efforts in moulding the disciples.

P.S. Mahadevan conferred the title on the vocalist and also presented a purse and gold coin.

Speakers said Mr. Gopalakrishnan went an extra mile in imparting intensive training to his disciples. Noted musicians, including Ilayaraja and Ambur Padmanaban, had been moulded by him. Nagai Muralidharan and Mannarkudi Easwaran spoke.

In his acceptance address, Mr. Gopalakrishnan highlighted the services being rendered by the Nadhadweepam Trust and its founder ‘Tiruchi’ K. Ramesh.

A vocal concert was organised.

He was accompanied by S. Varadarajan on the violin, Ambur Padmanaban on mridangam, Alathur T. Rajaganesh on ganjira and Tiruchi S. Krishnaswamy on gatam.
