Two surrender in murder case

Amalraj, the prime suspect in the murder of retired Madurai Kamaraj University Professor Krishnan, and his associate Karthik surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate Court – V here here on Tuesday. They were remanded to judicial custody and lodged in the Tiruchi Central Prison.

A native of Karur district, Amalraj, who had been absconding since the murder, is a close relative of the retired professor. Amalraj, police believe, was the mastermind behind the murder. The police recovered a car belonging to the retired professor but they are yet to recover the missing severed head.

An officer said they would seek custody of Amalraj and his associate to ascertain the motive and trace the missing head. Investigators believe that the murder had been committed to grab the properties of Krishnan who resided at Madurai. Meanwhile, post mortem of Krishnan’s headless body was done at the Government Hospital here. However, relatives of the victim refused to accept the body.
