Two artistes were honoured with titles at a function organised under the auspices of Rasika Ranjana Sabha here on Friday.

Sweta Balasubramanian, a disciple of B.Umashankar, Chennai, was conferred with the title ‘Sangeetha Sri’ while Srirajani Darbha, disciple of Suguna Varadachari, was presented with ‘L.V. Memorial Award’.

A citation presented to Ms.Balasubramanian said the title was in recognition of her performance at the Carnatic music competitions organised by the sabha in June this year. The citation for Sriranjani Darbha pointed out to her excellent knowledge in music and ragas. A senior mridangam vidwan, N.Sundararaman, was honoured with a purse on the occasion.

M.S.Sheela, noted vocalist, honoured the artistes. N.Sekar, honorary secretary of the sabha, said that Mr.Sundararaman had designed a special style in handling mridangam and also initiated many disciples to his style.
