The task of relocating the TASMAC retail outlets located on the National Highways, following the Madras High Court directive, has been making a steady but slow progress in Karur district.

Of the 19 retail outlets earmarked for shifting , already six have found new addresses. Work on finding a new roof for the rest have been proceeding rather slowly as the authorities are finding resurgent antipathy towards liquor shops from many of the localities. Local TASMAC officials are awaiting nod from their higher ups on what to do next. In many areas public and residents have staged strong and virulent protests against locating the shops in their area.
