A large number of striking State Transport Corporation employees on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Labour Welfare, pressing for implementation of their charter of demands.

The hour-long demonstration saw the participation of striking employees belonging to various trade unions including Labour Progressive Front, CITU and AITUC.

Trade union sources said nearly 95% of the employees continued to be on strike in the Tiruchi region encompassing Tiruchi, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts on Wednesday as well.

The transport corporation authorities continued to engage private drivers on daily wage basis to operate some buses in the region.
