A day-long training programme on ‘Azolla and BGA cultivation’ was organised under the Indo - Norway project on Clima Rice in operation at Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute, Navalur Kuttapattu here.
The training programme was inaugurated by V. Jayabal, Dean of the college.
Global warming
In his inaugural address, he emphasized the need for cultivation practices which could reduce global warming.
R. Thamizh Vendan, Associate Professor (Microbiology), explained the role of Azolla and BGA in mitigating the effect of climate change in rice fields and demonstrated the field level cultivation.
The farmers were also taken to the screen house, where the Azolla and BGA are being multiplied. About 55 farmers practising Clima Rice project participated in the training programme.
