An election control room has been set up by the city police for the public to lodge complaints, if any, with respect to the Srirangam by-election, Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav said here on Friday.

Complaints can be lodged over the telephone by dialling 0431-2331043 or by e-mail to: trcelectioncr@gmail.com

Mr. Yadav told presspersons that complaints requiring action by the election authorities would be shared with the Returning Officer.

An officer in the rank of the Deputy Superintendent of Police had been nominated for coordinating with the election officials, he said.

All wall writings in the city should be removed voluntarily within two days by those who had put them up.

Under the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act no wall writing can be made in any public building/property including private ones in the city limits in view of the by-election.

Two more check posts at Kumbakonathan Salai and Srirangam All Women Police Station had been set up in view of the by-election to the Srirangam constituency.

With this, the number of check posts in the city has gone up to 10 and intensive vehicle checks were being conducted.

Two flying squads, a static surveillance team, and a video surveillance team had been constituted by the police to conduct checks in coordination with the Revenue officials, he said.
