Railways joins initiative to help raise awareness on autism

Passengers and visitors entering the Tiruchi Railway Junction were in for a surprise as they found the iconic white building’s façade lit up in blue on Wednesday evening.

The Indian Railways joined the ‘Light It Up Blue’ (LIUB) initiative, global initiative to help raise awareness about autism.

In India, LIUB campaign is one of the initiatives of National Trust, a statutory body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, to observe World Autism Awareness Day in India.

National Trust is the nodal body for spreading awareness regarding various disabilities including Autism at the pan India level.

World Autism Awareness Day is observed on April 2 every year.

Declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, the day is being observed every year since 2008, with the goal to bring the world’s attention to Autism.
