The Railway Health Unit at Thanjavur, falling under the Tiruchi Railway Division, has been adjudged the Best Maintained Health Unit in Southern Railway zone in the 2010- 11 financial year.
The Thanjavur Health Unit was recently awarded the rolling shield for being the best among all Health Units situated at various places across Southern Railway zone. Various parameters were taken into account before adjudging the Health Unit at Thanjavur as the Best Maintained Health Unit at the zonal level.
Railway officials said a host of aspects including the number of family welfare and awareness programmes conducted by the health unit; its drug dispensing system; patients care; number of persons treated as out-patients; work discipline; record maintenance; screening camps for various ailments; tubectomy and vasectomy motivation programmes conducted were all taken into account.
The Tiruchi Railway Division has under its jurisdiction eight health units located at Tiruchi Fort, Tiruchi Junction, Srirangam, Vriddhachalam, Tiruvannamalai, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai and Tiruvarur. The officials say a high-level committee headed by the Chief Medical Director of Southern Railway had selected Thanjavur Health Unit for the honour
