Ten agitating farmers arrested in Tiruchi

For extending support to their counterparts in New Delhi

A group of 10 farmers were arrested here on Monday after they assembled in front of the house of Tiruchi Member of Parliament P. Kumar in the city in support of their demands and to express their solidarity with the farmers agitating in New Delhi.

Police sources said the farmers were led by the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam district president P. Chinnadurai.

CMB sought

They wanted the MP to reinforce the demand of formation of Cauvery Management Board and waiver of loans obtained by farmers.

They expressed their support to the Tamil Nadu farmers protesting in New Delhi in support of their charter of demands.

Those arrested were later released.

Another group

In another incident, a group of 26 farmers affiliated to the Desiya Thennindhiya Nadhigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam were arrested after they staged a road roko at K.K. Nagar area in the city condemning BJP leader H. Raja’s remarks against the Sangam state president Ayyakannu.

Mr. Ayyakannu along with a group of farmers has been staging protest at New Delhi over the past few days in support of charter of demands.

The protestors were led by the Sangam district secretary Palanisamy.

Those arrested were later released, said police sources.
