Scholarships have not been disbursed to children of conservancy workers studying in primary and middle schools of Tiruchi city for 2012-13. The city unit of the Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers’ Federation has decided to make a representation to the Collector for an enquiry into the delay in disbursal of scholarships.
In a resolution passed at its executive committee meeting here, the association expressed regret over the undue delay in the distribution of scholarships.
It insisted that the education development fund of Rs.5000 for primary schools and Rs.12, 000 for middle schools, under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, should only be utilised for the purpose it was meant for. The meeting, presided over by M. James, decided to approach the Madras High Court for seeking exemption for primary and middle school teachers from appointment as booth-level officers during elections.
The association called for the immediate disbursal of salaries pending for two months for seven teachers of C. E. Primary School at Vannarapettai, even after formal change over of management. A protest demonstration would be organised in front of the office of the District Elementary Educational Officer on October 10 to draw attention of the Chief Minister to the issue.
The meeting appealed to the DEEO to take immediate steps for the sanction of two per cent grant for aided schools in the city for 2007 and 2008, according to a release.
