Tamil University will take up digitisation of heritage monuments in Tamil Nadu said M.Thirumalai, its Vice-Chancellor, here on Saturday.
Speaking at the 45th International conference of the Indiya Palkalaikazhaga Thamizhasiriyar Mandram (Tamil Teachers Association of Indian Universities) at the Tamil University here, Thirumalai said that the University has submitted a proposal for protecting heritage monuments in the state to the State Planning Commission. The commission has decided to release Rs. one crore for the project.Soon a Government order will be released in this connection.
University will take up digitisation of the heritage monuments under the project, Prof. Thirumalai said. There are world heritage monuments in the state like the Big temple at Thanjavur, the Vice-Chancellor said.
He said that Tamil Research Scholars should learn technologies like computer, soft ware etc. They should know frontier technologies like Nano technology. Tamil University is planning to release a book on Nano-technology. The University has also plans to strengthen Siddha department. Steps have been taken to open the Siddha research centre near Kolli Malai. Steps have also been taken to open the tribal research centre at Nilgris.
Two hundred delegates took part in the conference. A total of 377 research papers were presented. Mohan, President of Indiya Palkalai Kazhaga Thamizhasiriyar Mandram and Manivel, Secretary of the Mandram, also spoke.
