The Tiruchi Railway Division has been provided with new Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMU) rakes with toilets and other features for the comfort of the commuters.

A couple of swanky DEMU rakes manufactured by the Bharat Earth Movers Limited, Bangalore, reached Tiruchi Railway Junction a few days ago. Each new rake comprises two diesel power cars on the front and rear sides and six trailing cars to carry passengers. One of the new rakes was put on speed trial between Tiruchi and Ariyalur. These coaches would be subjected to more trials before being put into operation in different sections soon.

Railway sources told The Hindu that two more new DEMU rakes allotted to Tiruchi Railway Division would arrive in the near future. The new rakes have aerodynamically-designed power cars.
