A special summer training programme on ‘sloka' recital was conducted under the auspices of Sringeri Sankara Mutt at Srirangam recently.

About 45 students, underwent the training daily for about two hours from 6 a.m. at the Mutt. The students understood the importance of each and every sloka, its meaning and more importantly proper accent.

The programme aimed at creating a confidence among the learners about the simple practice for understanding the meaning of the slokas in general and Sansrit language in particular.

S. Vaitheeswaran, industrialist, distributed certificates and prizes to winners in the competition held at the end of the session. More than 100 slokas were taught. The basics of Sanskrit grammar was also taught, according to Mutt sources.

The training session has been evoking overwhelming response from the students every year, the sources added.
