Anna Science Centre-Planetarium here conducted recently a five-day summer camp in basic sciences. More than 60 students, including about 20 girls, studying classes VII to X in schools across the district took part.
On the inaugural day, J. Kalpana of Tiruchi Engineering College gave a presentation on the nuances of mathematics through stories. She explained about solving puzzles, games and paper shapes in mathematics, besides identifying the directions.
Vinatha, a mathematician of Numero Gym in Chennai narrated about encountering the symmetry in a simple way. The students interacted with the mathematicians and clarified their doubts. On the second day, yoga master T.R.G.Gowthaman gave a talk and training in yoga science and P. Marimuthu, a motivational expert, urged the students to study science in depth to understand the subject in detail. The students were also taken on a visit to the science centre and a 3-D science movie at the Anna Science Centre.
J.R. Pazhaniswami, Senior Scientific Assistant, Anna Science Centre, on the third day, demonstrated various science experiments in a simple way. P.N. Umayoru Bahan, retired General Manager of BHEL (Power), spoke about technology and advised the students to keep abreast of latest happenings in the field of science and technology. He also distributed prizes to winners of a drawing competition conducted for the students by the Anna Science Centre recently. Later, S.Natarajan, Science Communicator of Tamil Nadu Science Forum, explained science behind magic with experiments.
T.M.Alagiri Swamy Raju, Project Director of Anna Science Centre-Planetarium, addressed the students on “Science around us' and took the students on a visit to the Planetarium. S. Ruben Raj of Department of Mathematics, St. Joseph's College, gave a talk on basic astronomy.
The camp concluded on Thursday with an exclusive sky observation programme.
