Popular film personalities and people from different walks of life paid rich tributes to legendary music composer M. S. Viswanathan, popularly known as MSV, at a function organised by Kalai Peravai at the National College grounds here on Saturday evening.
The function was brought up in recognition of MSV’s yeoman service in the field of film music.
The highlight of the event was a song written by lyricist Vairamuthu hailing MSV’s achievements on the spot.
Mr. Viswanathan himself composed music instantly and the song was rendered by Srinivas. Classic songs composed by Mr. Viswanathan in his hey days were presented by various singers before the commencement of the function. Mr. Vairamuthu said there could be only one MSV and termed him as a legend in the world of music composition.
None of the present day music composers could refrain from having the influence of MSV’s tunes in their music. Music flows in MSV’s veins and it is his life.
S.P. Muthuraman, veteran director, narrated his long association with MSV and recalled that soul-stirring songs composed by MSV played a major role in the roaring success of the films starring late Sivaji Ganesan and M.G. Ramachandran. He also spoke on the very strong bond of friendship that existed between MSV and late Kannadasan.
Music composer (Sankar) Ganesh hailed MSV’s dedication and said that MSV would never complete his composition, till he was totally satisfied with the quality of music.
Renowned singers like P. Susheela and P.B. Srinivas had refined their talent only because of their association with MSV.
Directors Vikiraman, Lingusamy, Pandiraj, actors Nalini, Prasanna, M.N. Rajam, singers A.L. Raghavan, and A. Zameer Pasha said that MSV was a perfect role model for the present day music composers.
Tiruchi N. Siva, former MP and president of the Kalai Peravai, presided over the function.
Mr. Siva said that the Kalai Peravai in the past had honoured late T.M. Soundarararajn, K. Balachandar, and P. Susheela.
Mr. Siva, Vairamuthu and other artistes honoured MSV with a giant rose garland.
