Shopping complex may come up at Sengulam Colony

October 26, 2013 12:48 pm | Updated 12:48 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation has planned to build a shopping complex on a piece of land owned by the civic body near the Sengulam Colony market in the city.

The 2.50 acre site, which had been encroached for long, was recovered by the civic body a few years ago. Given the prime location of the property, the civic body hopes to generate substantial revenue by building a shopping complex on the site.

The proposal was approved at an urgent meeting of the council on Friday. The civic body would soon float tenders calling for consultants to prepare the feasibility report, a detailed project report, and the financial operation plan for the proposal.

To a question from Mohamed Mustafa (MDMK), City Engineer R. Chandran clarified that the Golden Rock zonal office would come up at the site as proposed earlier.

The council cleared a proposal to build a new facility for carrying out sterilisation procedures on stray dogs caught by the civic body. The facility, with an operation theatre, would come up near the sanitary workers residential quarters at Nehru Nagar at a cost of Rs. 20.30 lakh.
