State Bank of India (SBI) has been playing a pioneering role in the country’s development, said Arun Agrawal, Deputy General Manager, SBI, Tiruchi, at the 58th bank day celebrations organised by SBI here on Monday.

Customer patronage has been pivotal for the bank’s success, Mr. Agrawal said. The DGM honoured Shanthi and Cyril Roberts, both students of Vidivelli Special School, for their achievements in sports. Shanthi was a silver medallist in basketball in the 2011 Special Olympics held in Athens and Cyril has been selected to take part in athletics in the 2013 Special Olympics to be held in Australia. Mr. Agrawal also felicitated Mridhubhashini, a national-level medallist in skating. Fans were distributed to schools as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiative. Carnatic vocal recital by Thiruvaiyaru Jaishree and magic show by 'Puyal' Ganesh formed part of the celebrations.
