The Dr. K.Shantha Breast Cancer Foundation conducted a “21K Mammorun” – a half marathon – and a “5K” road race here on Sunday to create awareness on breast cancer.

Over 3,500 participants from Tiruchi and different parts of the State, including 50 doctors, took part in the event.

While the 21K Mammorun was conducted from Srirangam Boys Higher Secondary to the Anna Stadium, the 5K non-competitive run commenced from the Campion School and culminated at the Anna Stadium.

The top five runners in the 21K half marathon category were Army personnel from the Madras Regimental Centre. Cash prizes were given to the top 10 runners in the 21K category.

The winners in the 5K category were given consolation prizes .

Arokia Rajiv, a bronze medal winner at the recently-concluded Asian Games in Incheon (South Korea), was honoured on the occasion.

Collector Jayashree Muralidharan and Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, M. Ramasubramani, distributed prizes to the winners at Anna Stadium. Managing trustee of the foundation, Dr. K.Govindaraj, took part.
