Sensing the need for immediate temporary restoration of the road dug out for the underground drainage scheme in the town, the Rotary Club of Pudukottai Palace City has taken up a responsibility of filling the ditches using a large volume of sand.

In its first phase, the office-bearers of the club have selected the road leading to the Ranee's Government Maternity Hospital in the town. “Many pregnant women are the worst-hit due to the poor condition of the road,” says V.N.S. Senthil, former assistant governor and J. Sekar, president of the Club.

Their efforts went down well with the members of the public. Though the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board had initiated special steps for the speedy execution of the project, any delay in filling up the dug out areas causes serious hardship to the road users, say the residents. The onset of the monsoon has further aggravated the problem, they say.

The club has planned to fill up a few more major roads in the town in course of time, according to K. Mohanraj, its secretary.
