Retail kiosks for marketing SHG products

In an attempt to provide better marketing opportunities for products made by self-help groups, 14 retail kiosks are to be opened the district.

The first two kiosks were opened at Srirangam and Samayapuram on Saturday by T.P. Poonachi, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries.

Mr. Poonachi said each of the kiosks would be set up at a cost of Rs. 3.10 lakh under the Tamil Nadu Rural Livelihood Mission. The kiosks are to be run by self-help group federations. They would be provided Rs. 1.90 lakh for purchase of products.

The Sriangam kiosk would be run by the Thayanur Panchayat-level SHG federation and the one at Samayapuram had been given to Inamsayampuram Panchayat-level SHG Federation.

Mr. Poonachi said the State government was taking various steps to provide better marketing opportunities for self-help groups and was organising State, regional and district-level exhibitions and college bazaars.

R. Manoharan, Chief Whip, P. Kumar and R.P. Marutharaja, MPs, K.S. Palanisamy, District Collector, Mayor A. Jaya, and Srirangalam MLA S. Valarmathi were present.
