Residents of Alwarthoppu and Bheema Nagar on Monday staged a novel protest in front of the Tiruchi City Corporation office by covering their body with mosquito nets.

The protest was to highlight the sufferings of the people living along the Uyyakondan canal due to mosquito menace.

The agitators led by A. Abdul Nazer, 49{+t}{+h}ward branch secretary of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK), raised slogans urging the Corporation authorities to take immediate action to control mosquito menace.

The protestors said that the menace had reached an all time high with the stagnation of water in the canal. Though several representations were made to the authorities, the issue was yet to be resolved.

If the authorities failed to act, the protestors warned that they would lay siege to the residents of officials.
