Residents of Mustakinathupatti near Vellianai on Sunday observed a token fast, protesting against the installation of wind mills.

A large number of villagers, including women and children, took part in the fast. The protest that began at 9 a.m. concluded at 5 p.m.

They were demanding the State government to prevent the installation of wind mills at Mookanangurichi, Baganatham, Pichampatti and Venjamangudalur. They said that if installed the windmills would suck the moisture in the air, thereby affecting the crops.

They had blocked a truck carrying blades and other equipment for installing windmills at Mustakinathupatti recently.
