Former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja’s wife Parameswari, and his elder brother appeared at the Income Tax Office here on Friday after they were summoned by the IT Department for an enquiry.

Sources said Parameswari, wife of Raja, who has been arrested and lodged in the Tihar Jail in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, and his elder brother A. Ramachandran were questioned by a senior officer of the IT Department in the rank of a Deputy Director for about three hours.

It is said that the inquiry was to seek certain clarifications regarding income tax returns they had filed and the source of their income. Ms. Parameswari and Mr. Ramachandran were accompanied by a team of auditors during the IT inquiry.

The CBI, which is probing the 2G Spectrum scam, had conducted raids in the residences of relatives of Raja and in Perambalur and Tiruchi a few months ago, besides raiding the houses of the former Union Minister’s aides in Perambalur.
