Reservation in job and education has brought in a social revolution by providing a level-playing field to the weaker sections of society, said P.V.Vaidialingam, Divisional Railway Manager, here on Thursday.
At the inauguration of the two-day seminar on ‘reservation policy' organised by the Tiruchi Railway Division at the Zonal Railway Training Institute (ZRTI) auditorium here, Mr.Vaidialingam said railways has always been in the forefront of the implementation of reservation policies laid down by the government.
He appealed to the staff to keep abreast of reservation policies and act according to the intent of the rules to implement it.
M.Selvaraj, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, explained the background and the necessity of reservation. He said that the implementation of reservation policies helped the weaker sections to gain social status, economic and political freedom.
K.V.Prakasam, principal, ZRTI, R.K.Mohan Narayanan, Divisional Personnel Officer, and K.Manickaraj, Senior Personnel Officer, Southern Railway head quarters, also spoke on the occasion.
A booklet – Reservation Policy on Indian Railways - was released. In the forenoon session Mr.Manickaraj, dealt at length on introduction, maintenance and implementation of post based roster for physically challenged and ex-servicemen.
In the after-noon sections M.Subramanian, Assistant Personnel Officer, head quarters, Southern Railway, spoke on “relaxation concessions and its applicability at various circumstances like recruitment, appointment and promotions by selection/non-selection” and V.Sivasamy, Assistant Personnel Officer, Tiruchi Railway Division, spoke on “origin of rosters, implementing and operating of post based rosters.'
