Cadre of Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT) observed fast in the city and elsewhere in the district on Tuesday demanding that the people belonging to Scheduled Caste called under different names such as Pallar , Kudumbar , Kaaladi , Pannadi and Devendrakulathan be called under one name – Devendra Kula Velalar .

The day-long fast observed at Chinthamani was led by the party’s Tiruchi urban district secretary K.Sankar and rural district secretary M.Ayyappan. The PT leader K.Krishnasamy joined the fasting cadre for some time.

The cadre urged the State government to issue an order in this connection. They also urged the government to declare dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran’s death anniversary as an official memorial day.

They also demanded the government to withdraw the sub-quota within the Scheduled Caste community. Fasts were also observed at Thuraiyur, Lalgudi, and Manachanallur.
