They want the administration to post enough security personnel

Councillors who participated in the monthly meeting held here on Saturday, urged the municipal administration to take action for proper upkeep of parks which were renovated and beautified recently.

They said the objective of providing entertainment, particularly to children, will be achieved only through proper maintenance of the parks in the town.

Initiating a discussion, Arumugam, a councillor, said the municipality had, from out of the special funds sanctioned for its centenary celebrations, incurred huge expenditure for the renovation of parks. But the absence of adequate security personnel would cause damage to the parks by bad elements.

Ibrahim Babu, another councillor, said the parks had got a facelift due to the current renovation works.

However, steps should be taken for the proper upkeep through privatisation.

A few councillors wanted steps for solid waste management. They wanted steps for privatisation of sanitation services. The councillors wanted the work on underground drainage scheme to be expedited.

S.A. Sait, municipal chairman (in-charge), promised the councillors of prompt action to their complaints. He said that tenders would be called for privatisation of sanitary services by the end of this month.
