February 23, 2017 09:11 pm | Updated February 24, 2017 09:27 am IST - PUDUKOTTAI:

Residents of Neduvasal near here stepped up their stir against the proposed exploration of hydrocarbon in their village.

An agitation committee, ‘Anti-hydrocarbon exploration movement’ has been floated in the village comprising all villagers as members. They keep a close vigil on the border preventing the entry of any government vehicle into the village for inspection of the site where a rig had been set up decades ago. They have hoisted black flags on trees and at their houses as a mark of protest against the exploration.

Consumer activists have joined hands in the stir. In a letter to the Union Ministry of Agriculture, K. Vezhavendan, general secretary of the Pudukottai District Consumer Association, said that the project would affect the livelihood of the villages.
