Even as the 40 edition of “Festember”, a popular cultural event of the National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi (NIT), got off to a flying start, actor Prasanna took a trip down memory lane at the inauguration of the festival here on Thursday.
Prasanna, who grew up at the BHEL Township in Tiruverumbur near here, didn’t get the opportunity to study in the neighbouring NIT.
But, he did get the opportunity to perform on the Festember platform a few years ago.
“My dad wanted me to get good marks to make it to the NIT. But that didn’t happen. I am extremely happy that I am standing in front of you as a chief guest of Festember. I hope my dad cherishes the moment,” he said amid cheering by the huge gathering of students.
“I cannot forget the Cauvery, Tiruchi, Township, NIT-T and of course songs scored by the legend Ilayaraja as these are all part of my childhood memories,” said Mr.Prasanna, an alumnus of the Saranathan College of Engineering in Tiruchi.
Festember, one of the biggest cultural events organised by the students of the region every year in September, had captured the imagination of teenagers and college-goers, he said.
M.Punnaiyamurthi, Director-in-charge, NIT-T, said cultural festivals have the capacity to rejuvenate people.
It would help students develop their soft skills, particularly leadership skills, as they took up full responsibility of conducting the festivals.
