The Manapparai Milk Producers’ Cooperative Society, which registered a record sale of milk during 2011-12, has suffered a dip in procurement this year due to deficient rainfall.
The society recorded an average milk procurement of 14, 000 litres per day in 2011-12 and this has come down to around 12, 000 litres now.
Members of the society were informed at the 62 general body meeting held here on Monday that the sale of milk stood at Rs.10.45 crore in 2011-12 with a procurement of 51.27 lakh litres for Rs.9.4 crore. During the previous year, the society procured milk for Rs.7.3 crore and sold it for Rs.8.13 crore. In the current year, it sells an average of 8,000 litres in Manapparai itself every day and the rest of the procured milk is sent to the chilling plant, according to R.Thangavel, secretary.
The chairperson, V.Stella Mary, said that the society, which was formed on July 16, 1950, had 5,461 members as on March 31, 2012. The Karur MP, M.Thambidurai, who participated in the meeting, gave away prizes and incentives to K.Parvathi of Vidathilampatti, P.Sahaya Santhi of Pothamettupatti and Chinnasamy of Sevalur for being the top three milk suppliers to the society during 2011-12.
