The Tiruchi Travel Federation (TTF) in association with the Department of Tourism and Culture would organize a Pongal tourism festival at Mukkombu near here on January 13.
Various cultural programmes have been lined up for the event to be held at 3 p.m. on the day. Apart from pooja and preparation of Pongal in the traditional way, the event would also showcase to tourists traditional events such as ‘uriadi,’ folk arts and dance including sillambattam, kavadi, karagattam, thappattam and dire dance, demonstration on pot, veena and Thanjavur art plate making and Thanjavur paintings, according to T.H.Radhakrishnan, Station Manager, Air India, and media coordinator of TTF.
A group of self-help group women would participate in a rangoli contest. TTF has made arrangements for transport of foreign tourists from the city, Mr.Radhakrishnan said.
