Plan to improve amenities in 98 slum dwellings

Tiruchi Corporation has prepared proposals worth Rs. 34.57 crore

The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation has planned to improve basic amenities in 98 slum dwellings in four backward wards in the city.

It has drawn up proposals worth Rs.34.57 crore. The project would be implemented with financial assistance from the State and Central governments, corporation general and other scheme funds, besides funds from the State Balance Growth Fund. A proposal to this effect was approved at the recent Corporation Council meeting.

Under the initiative, the corporation would provide underground and drinking water connections, build drains and improve other amenities in identified slums. The corporation council has approved the collection of a deposit of Rs.6,000 that the beneficiaries have to pay for getting new drinking water or underground drainage connections in monthly instalments. The deposit would be collected from beneficiaries in 60 monthly instalments of Rs.100.

The civic body has planned to provide 10,814 drinking water connections to 16,884 households and 12,645 underground drainage connections to 15,245 houses as part of the initiative. The development programme will be implemented at Ambedkar Nagar, Kalanjiam, Azhagirpuram and Kannimarthoppu in ward 4; Kamaraj Nagar, Uppilliyar Street, Kalmanthai, Sathyamurthy Nagar, Tharanallur Agraharam, North Tharanallur and Anna Nagar in ward 15; Pensioners’ Colony, Pudukottai Road, Ambedkar Nagr, Valluvar Nagar, Kottapattu Indira Nagar, Kamaraj Nagar, Santhosh Nagar, TRP Nagar, Alikankulam, Kakkan Colony, Thilagar Street and Anthoniyar Kovil Street in ward 35 and Inamdhar Thoppu, Pudu Mariaamman Kovil Street, Kuthbisha nagar, Vinayagapuram, Rettai Vaical, Vamadam and Othagopuram Pallivasal in ward 50.
