All district headquarters that do not have medical college hospitals will have their government headquarters hospitals provided with facilities akin to medical college hospitals in the State.
As part of the measure, all primary health centres in the districts will also be computerised and efforts will be taken to expedite the process, said the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Vijaya Baskar, at a review meeting at the Collectorate here on Sunday.
The joint review meeting for the districts of Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur saw the participation of health personnel, starting from village health inspectors to district-level officials.
The Minister assured support to the municipality and local bodies in controlling diseases that normally see a surge during monsoons. Health inspectors and block medical officers were advised to act on the field reports of village health nurses (VHNs).
Mr.Baskar inspected the wards at the government headquarters hospital. Public Works Department officials were hauled up for the delay in constructing new kitchen for patients. The dilapidated hospital kitchen is at a stone’s throw from the mortuary.
Taking stock of the measures taken up to deal with dengue outbreak early this year, Mr. Baskar called for sustaining such coordinated action between all line departments. Special awareness programmes for health workers, VHNs, office bearers of panchayats were also proposed. Similar review meetings were held in Tiruchi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukottai, and Thanjavur.
