Two staff of ‘108’ ambulance service here handed over Rs. 4 lakh to the relatives of an aged man who met with an accident.
The ambulance service received an alert in the early hours on Sunday that an accident had taken place at Tiruchi Railway Junction roundabout. The ambulance at the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital was pressed into service. The vehicle driven by Raja with an emergency medical technician Sasi Kapoor rushed to the spot. The staff found an aged man lying in an unconscious state after the motorcycle he drove dashed against a barricade at around 1.10 a.m. There was no one known to the old man at the spot. The staff rescued the man, later identified as Selvaraj of K.K. Nagar, and shifted him to the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital.
While providing first aid, the technician noticed Rs. 4 lakh and a mobile phone in the possession of the injured. He managed to get hold of the phone number of the aged man’s son and relatives and conveyed the information to them. The son and relatives of Selvaraj landed at the hospital. The technician handed over the cash, cell phone, wrist watch and other items to the son of Selvaraj. A senior official of the ambulance service said the Collector K.S. Palanisamy appreciated the staff.
