While making it clear that the BJP has no “tacit understanding” with the AIADMK, Sidharth Nath Singh, BJP national secretary, on Wednesday said, if needed, the party would seek the support of the AIADMK and the Trinamool Congress to pass some important bills.
He told The Hindu here that the BJP did not have any secret understanding with the AIADMK. In a federal set up, there could be no harm in seeking the support of political parties for the overall development of the nation. Hence, if needed, top leaders of the BJP would seek the support of the AIADMK, the TMC and other parties for passing important bills such as GST Bill for accelerating the growth of the country. It was important for the political parties to have cordial relationship to carry forward the development agenda. It could not be construed as political tie-up.
Stressing the need for passing GST Bill, Mr. Singh said the AIADMK would support it. If passed the Bill would bring more benefits to the States.
Criticising the Tamil Nadu government on power front, he said it was wrong to claim that it had attained self-sufficiency in the sector.
It had been “stage managed” by procuring power at an exorbitant price. It had ruined the health of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation.
The mishandling of the corporation would weaken the system further, he added.
