New insurance schemes being implemented in POs

Two new insurance schemes – Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana are being implemented in post offices with effect from September 7.

A person aged from 18 to 49 years having a savings account or otherwise by opening a new savings account in any post office having the core banking solution facility could join the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyothi Bima Yojana insurance scheme.

The annual premium for the insured amount of maximum Rs 2 lakhs is Rs. 330. Premium amount will be deducted from the savings account of the policy holder every year during the period between May 25 and June 1. The scheme is being implemented through Life Insurance Corporation of India.

A person aged from 18 to 70 years having a savings account or otherwise by opening a new savings account in any post office having core banking solution facility could join the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.

The annual premium for the maximum insured amount of Rs. 2 lakhs is Rs. 12 per person.

The insurance amount can be claimed only on accident.

If a person dies or loses one or both eyes / hands / feet due to accident and gets irreparable loss to these parts, the person could claim insurance maximum up to Rs. 2 lakhs. This scheme is being implemented through the National Insurance Company Limited.

A person could join in both the schemes if eligible for the same.

However, one person cannot avail the benefit of more than one policy in the same scheme.
