NCB, Thuvakudi toll plaza staff spar

April 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:45 am IST - TIRUCHI:

A fracas broke out between officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and toll plaza staff at Thuvakudi on the city’s outskirts on Friday leading to a scuffle.

The Thuvakudi police have detained two toll plaza staff in this connection acting on a complaint from an NCB official. Police sources said a four-member NCB team, including two Inspectors from Madurai zone, were proceeding towards Mayiladuthurai in a jeep when the incident occurred.

Upon reaching the toll plaza, the NCB personnel in plain clothes flashed their identity card to the toll plaza personnel and wanted to continue their journey without paying toll. The toll plaza staff did not oblige and the two groups picked a quarrel. In the scuffle that ensued, the attire of a inspector was torn. On a complaint from the NCB Inspector Joseph Dhanraj, the Thuvakudi police held two persons, Anand and Veeramani, and are conducting inquiries.
