Murder in Tiruchi Jail

February 04, 2010 04:32 pm | Updated 11:38 pm IST - TIRUCHI

A remand prisoner was murdered in Tiruchi Central Jail allegedly by a life convict following a quarrel on Thursday morning.

The quarrel was believed to be a sequel to the fracas that erupted on Wednesday night between life convict Aditya Kamal (26) of Khajamalai and Krishna (40) of Andhra Pradesh when the latter reprimanded him for refusing to serve additional quantity of ‘sambar.’

Sources said Aditya Kamal, enraged over being insulted with derogatory words during the scuffle on Wednesday, caused bleeding injuries on Krishna’s head using a log. Krishna was declared dead when brought to hospital. Aditya Kamal, who was convicted in a murder case registered in the Egmore police station limits, was shifted from the Puzhal prison to Tiruchi Central Jail about a month ago.

Jail Superintendent A. Murugesan placed under suspension M. Chinnathambi and P. Kannan, Head Warders for slackness in duty.

He also issued charge memo to Assistant Jailor R. Umapathi.
