The City Police have procured 72 Breathing Analysers additionally to enable police personnel detect drunken driving here. The new equipment would be distributed to Sub Inspectors and Inspectors attached to Traffic and Law and Order Wings, as well as to all the 12 patrol vehicles operating within the city limits.
The Breathing Analysers have been procured to facilitate police personnel carry out checks in more number of places within the city limit simultaneously and book more number of drunken driving cases, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Rupesh Kumar Meena told reporters here on Tuesday.
Mr. Meena said the City Police had collected over Rs. One crore as fine amount till now this year by booking traffic-related offences under the Motor Vehicle Act including drunken driving.
Intensive vehicle checks in the recent times within the city limits had drastically reduced two-wheeler lifting, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) S. Rajendiran said.
