All necessary preventive measures have been taken to prevent outbreak of epidemics in the State, Health Minister C.Vijaya Baskar said here on Thursday.

In a brief interaction with reporters after inspecting the fever ward at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital here, he said 29 children and 13 adults were undergoing treatment at the hospital for fever. However, there was no case of dengue fever.

Nevertheless, special care was being given to people reporting with fever.

When asked about a couple of deaths being reported at Kathikaranpatti in the district recently, he said that there was no case of dengue in the district. All patients in the hospital had only ordinary fever and there was no confirmed case of dengue, he maintained.

“Not all cases of fever are dengue. People need not entertain apprehensions,” he affirmed.

Preventive measures have been taken across the State. Adequate number of sanitary workers has been posted to take up sanitation measures.

District administrations have been asked to closely monitor cases of fever, both in private and government hospitals, and ensure proper treatment to the patients.

Steps have also been taken to arrest quacks and prompt action would be taken on information relating to the operation of quacks, he added.

Vellamandi N.Natarajan, Minister for Tourism, S.Valarmathi, Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, K.S.Palanisamy, Collector, and Mary Lilly, Dean, K.A.P.Viswanatham Medical College and Hospital, were present.
