A large number of people belonging to the Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam and Milk Producers Union staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate after taking out a rally here on Monday demanding that the State government fix the procurement price for cow's milk at Rs.25 per litre and Rs.30 for buffalo's milk taking into account the steep increase in the price of cattle feed and wages of agricultural workers.

The women protestors were carrying milk pots and the agitation was led by N.Ganesan, secretary of Milk Producers Welfare Association. R.Raja Chidambaram, State secretary of Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam, led the rally, which was attended by M.R.Loganathan and K.Shanmugam, Tiruchi district president and secretary respectively of the sangam.

The milk producers urged the Tamil Nadu government to give Rs. 5 per litre as direct subsidy on par with their Karnataka and Puducherry counterparts. They also urged the government to provide cattle feed at subsidised rate .
