Memory of MGR remains fresh in followers' hearts

Rallies, garlanding the statues and portraits, feeding the poor marked the birth anniversary of the founder of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and former Chief Minister, M. G. Ramachandran, across the district on Tuesday.

AIADMK cadre, including women, led by R. Manoharan, MLA and secretary of the urban district unit of the party, garlanded the statue of the late leader at the District Court junction in the city. K. K. Balasubramanian, secretary of the rural district unit of the party, P. Kumar, MP, K. P. Krishnan, M. Paranjothi, T. P. Poonachi, Indira Gandhi, Chandrasekaran, all MLAs, and M. Ashik Meera, Deputy Mayor, garlanded the statue.

Members of the various wings of the party were present on the occasion.

The party cadre also garlanded the statues of late MGR at Othakadai, Ponnagar, Puthur, Thillainagar, Srirangam, Eda Street and Marakkadai. A large number of poor were fed.

The garlanded portraits of MGR were displayed in various parts of the city and of the district. Scores of people paid floral tributes to the portraits throughout the day. Philosophical songs featured in the MGR starrers, reverberated not only his supporters, but also the people.

Cadre of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) led by Vijayarajan, district secretary of the party, garlanded the statue of MGR. Members of the traders' wing and farmers' wing also garlanded the statue.
