Mayor instructs officials to send encroachers at bus stand packing

Mayor A.Jaya has instructed officials to remove all encroachments by traders in the central bus stand.

The Mayor also directed officers to improve sanitation and improve cleanliness of public toilets inside the bus stand. She gave the instructions while inspecting the bus stand along with Corporation Commissioner K.Veera Raghava Rao, here on Tuesday. Ms.Jaya and Mr.Rao went around the bus stand and also checked the upkeep of toilets.

The Mayor told the officials that it was important to improve sanitation as the bus stand attracts a large number of people every day.

On finding several hawkers and traders occupying the platforms and open spaces, she told the officers to remove all encroachments which were hindering passenger movement. Mr.Rao on finding a person smoking inside a toilet, ordered the officials to impose a fine of Rs.100 on him.

He also appealed to the crew of buses to use the toilets and not to urinate in the open spaces.

The Mayor also inspected the on-going development works sanctioned at a cost of Rs.1.50 crore at the Chathram Bus Stand.

She directed the officials to expedite work on erection of roof over the bus stand and ensure that there was no stagnation of rain water inside the bus stand.

Ms.Jaya and Mr.Rao also inspected the site for establishing a park at the Thillai Nagar Extension near the Fort Station. The park is to come up at a cost of Rs.10 lakh. City Engineer S.Raja Mohammed and other officials were present.
