Marungapuri residents offer to donate land for taluk office

Location of the new taluk office, a bone of contention

October 01, 2013 11:55 am | Updated June 02, 2016 04:20 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The proposed taluk office at Marungapuri has become a symbol of status, the people of three topographically different segments around Marungapuri vying with one another to have the building constructed within their proximity.

The Manapparai taluk is planned to be bifurcated with Marungapuri to be carved out as the new taluk headquarters.

Although it is “Marungapuri taluk”, the selection of a site for the construction of the taluk office building has become an issue for three months.

M. Kallupatti, Marungapuri, and Thuvarankurichi are located in different thoroughfares in and around Marungapuri.

People in each segment consider it a “pride” to have the taluk office built in their area.

Site

A group of people from Marungapuri have urged the district administration to select a site between Marungapuri and Vettukadu village.

Some of them even expressed their willingness to donate a piece of land to construct the taluk office.

They said that the term “Marungapuri” had rather become a landmark as many government offices are located in M. Kallupatti.

At least the taluk office should be constructed close to their residential area, they said.
