Make Tiruchi second capital of TN: Ramadoss

December 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 24, 2016 11:03 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S.Ramadoss has suggested that Tiruchi be made the second capital of the State in view of the recent floods, which paralysed Chennai.

“Tiruchi is centrally located in the State and has the second biggest international airport in the State next to Chennai. There is plenty of government poromboke land in the Tiruchi-Thanjavur-Pudukottai belt.

The city also offers scope for expansion,” Dr. Ramadoss told a press conference here on Saturday.

“Initially, the head offices of some government departments can be moved here. A few sessions of the Assembly and Cabinet meetings can be held here. These measures will help decongest Chennai,” he said.

The PMK, if voted to power, would constitute an expert panel to study the pros and cons of such a move and arrive at a decision, Dr. Ramadoss added.

Dr. Ramadoss dismissed the contention that lack of unity among the Opposition would favour the ruling party.
